Talking politics or making a difference? In a world of social media and 24 hour news, none of us can avoid the fact that there is a General Election coming up. Whilst I’m not going to talk politics here (I’ll save that for when I’ve had a few gin and tonics!), times are tough for many families in the UK. That’s why I wanted to tell you about Leeds Baby Bank, an incredible organisation, run 100% by volunteers and making a HUGE difference to struggling families across the city. A few weeks back, Mini First Aid offered a couple of free classes as a prize for a fundraising event organised by the fantastic Leeds Baby Bank, based close to our Head Office. Ever since then, I’ve been itching to talk about the fantastic group of volunteers who dedicate their time to running Leeds Baby Bank and support families across Leeds who urgently need baby essentials such as nappies, wipes, clothes and other baby equipment.     Leeds Baby Bank now needs to raise at least £4000 to fund new premises to sort and store donations. This is when you can actually DO something rather than just talking about it. To make a donation, click on the Leeds Baby Bank ‘Go Fund Me’ page https://www.gofundme.com/leeds-baby-bank. Leeds Baby Bank is 100% volunteer-run so every penny donated goes to purchasing items which cannot be given second hand or to pay for premises for storage. There are similar Baby Banks across the UK so there is nothing to stopping you finding a similar one near you. There are a number of ways you can get involved: You can donate nappies, wipes and baby equipment; you can make a financial donation which goes towards the storage and delivery of the equipment; or you can become a volunteer yourself. Families who receive support from Leeds Baby Bank include low income families, homeless families, refugees, and victims of domestic violence. I can’t think of people any more deserving of our support or compassion.
